Of course, everyone in Russia is upset thinking that is something political. Practically, because of fault of a few, they exercised group punishment. I thought "western democracy was against "group punishment."
Well, I'm not a sports fanatic, but I like to see humanity gets together for some cheerful occasions.
I remember 1980 Olympics in Moscow. USA "boycotted" and didn't send its team. It didn't bother nobody. We enjoyed it tremendously. What a safe time was that, OMG! USA with its politics punished its own athletes. What a stupidity. Putin said that politics should not effect sports, sports might effect politics, because it unites brings people together.

The world is not safe, all those young, healthy Russians are better off staying put and playing with each other.

Competition as such is not my drive. Never has been. It's a genetic trade. I prefer co-operation.
For example, I like the idea of marathon, but I'm against letting professionals in and granting them victory prizes. Of course professionals will win, DUH? To me winners should be only amateurs with proven real jobs first. If professionals and already known champs would like to participate - by all means. Just participate, go ahead, finish first, I'm all for it. But, why would NYC taxpayer pay a million dollars one winner. Oh, wait, most of the time it goes to a foreigner who most likely takes that money out of the country. To me all the participants are winners. That's how I see it.

News broke from Munich, Germany about a Iranian-German teenager killing 9 and wounding 1. he was killed too by police, but the city almost came to full halt, because it was believed that there were 3 gunmen and they were still at large long after the incident.
